Family Tradition

The desire to create this painting, Family Tradition, has been on my list for quite some time.  The subject of this painting, Wayne Hodges, was one of my dad's best friends.  The Hodges family is quite large and very close.  They love getting together with a host of friends and family members for a "jam" session.  They are some of the most musically talented folks you would ever meet and they sometimes play and sing until wee hours!  I feel so blessed to call them my friends.

We lost my dad in 1980 and lost Wayne in 1998.  Wayne always wanted me to paint him a painting.  I regretfully never did.  This painting is my way to let his family know I never forgot about that and for his family and friends to have something special to commemorate his life and the good times that were shared.  I enjoyed every minute of creating this painting and thanks to Phyllis for providing the photo.

Thank you to the Hodges family for the many years of friendship and fellowship, past, present and future! I hope you all enjoy my painting, "Family Tradition", 16 x 20, Oil

Happy New Year to all of you!  2013 was a really good year and I am working to make 2014 even better!  The new year will bring with it some changes for my art business. Good changes.  This year is pivotal in that I will be transitioning from the faux world and full time into the fine art world. There. I said it. I love art in all forms but in my heart of hearts, creating art on canvas is my true passion.  Last year I tried to make the jump only to realize I was not prepared.  This will not be an overnight thing, but I will be working daily to make the transition!

Meanwhile, back at the easel….I created this painting as a study for a commission later this month.  The commissioned piece will be something really different for me and I will be stepping way out of my comfort zone!  Normally my approach to stepping out of my comfort zone is to research subject matter, take notes, worry, contemplate, procrastinate, look for my notes (I always put them in that "safe place"), procrastinate and contemplate again, and finally dive in and just paint it!  This time I am painting my way through the planning stage, making notes on my iPad, and it seems to help me focus.  I wanted to share the first painting, or color notes, with you.  I am wanting to use more intense color in the upcoming commission. This painting, "Head'n Home", has much brighter and intense color than most of my paintings, but I am really happy with that.  I want to thank Katrina at Rough Creek Images for allowing me to us her photograph for subject matter in this painting.

Sunset is a Beautiful Thing...

Sunset is a beautiful thing...whether you are trying to unwind from the busy whirl of the early part of your day or settling in and reflecting on how pleasant your day was and how you wish you could freeze this day in time....sunset is a beautiful thing.  Where is your favorite place to watch the sunset? These two paintings were painted from photos taken by my friends on their vacation...I painted them, trying to capture the beautiful colors in the sunset. The yellow and orange tones really seam to pop against the blue violet shadowed areas!  My friend fell in love with the paintings and purchased them for her husband for his birthday!  Happy Birthday, Russell Mitchell! I sincerely hope you and Holly enjoy your paintings for years to come!

Oil on Canvas Panel
12" x 12"
Welcome to my blog! It is so exciting to have you join me on this new adventure and share with you my passion for art!  I will be posting paintings as they come off the easel and have plans for discussions and interaction with all of you! I am thrilled about this new venture and look forward to sharing art and making new friends!

This Painting...

This painting, "Afternoon's Delight", was inspired by a beautiful Spanish Style home in the Historical District of Fort Worth, Texas. This home is as delightful as the family who lives in it! Every nook and cranny lies the inspiration to create....
